📝 The story behind the little key

Twenty years as a Navy SEAL

Willink served two decades in the U.S. Navy, commanding SEAL Team Three's Task Unit Bruiser during the Battle of Ramadi, one of the most highly decorated special operations units of the Iraq War.

Extreme Ownership

After retiring, Willink co-authored Extreme Ownership, teaching that leaders (and everyone else) get the best results by taking full responsibility for outcomes, rather than making excuses — a discipline he says has to be practiced daily, in small ways.

"Good."

Willink became widely known for a simple philosophy he applies to setbacks: respond with the single word "Good," then immediately look for the opportunity the setback has created, rather than staying stuck in frustration.

The Beaver and the Power of Patience
🔑 How this connects to their story

Birch the beaver learns that one good log a day builds what a hurry never could, and Pearl the penguin learns to say 'Good' when her whole plan falls apart. Willink built a career teaching both of those same lessons.
